The 10 Best 1930’s Vintage Dresses

Every decade has its own focus. When we talk about 1930’s, we have to think about a transition era, where fashion started thinking about the clothes being more fitted and we thought about showing a more curvy figure, think about the hour-glass shape that we have in mind these days.

However, the 30’s had still a lot from the previous decade, and as a result, we found ourselves seeing both boxy silhouettes and more fitted ones. Fashion started giving importance to the waist, and the clothes started reflecting that by highlighting this part with belts and more structure fabrics. The great thing about this is that if you want to channel the 30’s you would probably look like you’re dressing for this age, but with a great retro vibe, due to the elements that make these clothes look very current.

One thing about the clothes from this decade is that we basically got rid of the fringes, and replace them with layers or fabrics that would add a lot of movement to the dress. And even with a photo, you can see that this dress is light as air, and the skirt moves beautifully. That’s because it’s made out of 70% polyester and 30% silk. The opulence of the previous era is present in the side beading, which looks amazing on the black fabric. Being made of such a light material, don’t expect it to stretch at all because if it would, you wouldn’t be able to move so freely. The fabric is also semi-sheer, but you don’t have to worry about see-through because the skirt is completely lined.

Remember that gorgeous dress Emma Stone wore at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards? I do! It was a beautiful blush Valentino with a lot of beaded stars on it, and that remind me a lot of this dress. This model is exactly what we’re talking about the 30’s: a transition silhouette, where the dress is not too boxy but also not too fitted. It’s made out of 100% polyester with a 100% polyamide lining, which guarantees nothing can be seen through the fabric. This dress has a lined hand beading with stars all over it, starting from the V-neckline and going through all over the dress. Be careful when the washing time comes, with this kind of dresses a little hand wash is more than enough.

Color is also a great part of the dresses that get their inspiration from this era, in contrast with the 20’s where everything was pretty much black and white, Golden or silver. This purple dress also features a very fitted silhouette and a ‘midi’ length but is a little bit lighter due to the fact that is unlined. Made out of 62% polyester, 32% rayon and 6% spandex it will give the right fit but with a bit of freedom to move. We would love to say that there was all glamour back then for women. But no, they also had to work both in an office or at their houses, and for those tasks they needed something less beaded and more comfortable. And that’s how we got our first cotton dresses. This model by ReVamp has an interesting square print, on a very nice and practical color, such as blue. Like most of its dresses, this one is handmade in Los Angeles, but also makes its pride about being made out of all natural fibers. The silhouette of this dress is also fitted, but it has an interesting shape at the bottom. The collared neckline makes it even cuter and the buttons help you determine your level of cleavage (and it’s always nice to have that option).
